Who We Are
We are a group of people who want to make a difference. Bariki Africa is a team of coordinators and volunteers who work together to bless others the same way that we have been blessed. Bariki Africa was started in 2013 by Ben and Breana Johnson. Ben grew up in East Africa, where his family still lives as missionaries with Christian Missions in Many Lands. He and his wife had a vision to partner with family, friends, and nationals overseas to give young people a chance to impact their communities. They desired to harness resources in the States to support underfunded projects in Africa. Through this vision and their shared love of running, the Bariki Africa 5K was born. In spring of 2015, Bariki Africa became a registered 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization.
What We Do
Not all Americans can go overseas to make a difference internationally, but we can make a difference in our own communities and even chance the face of communities thousands of miles away. Bariki Africa's goal is to do both those things. Through community events that are both fun and healthy, Bariki Africa encourages Arizonans to build relationships and live healthy, active lifestyles. The Bariki Africa 5K also provides a way for Americans to learn about East Africa's beautiful culture and get involved in supporting its bright future.
